RedWolves fall in 13

The Florence RedWolves fell 6-5 to the Savannah Bananas in 13 innings on Tuesday night at Grayson Stadium.


The Bananas struck first with a run in the bottom of the first.


The RedWolves would answer in the top of the third when Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) hit a sac fly that allowed Nathan Medrano (St. Edwards) to score and tie the game.


Savannah would answer with two in the bottom of the third but the RedWolves would answer in the top of the fourth to get a run closer when Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) doubled home Brandon McIlwain (Cal).


Florence would tie the game an inning later when Kenny Piper (Columbia College) doubled home Weisenseel. Piper would score a batter later when JT Weber (Southern Illinois) singled him in to give the RedWolves the lead.


The Bananas would score two in the seventh to take the 5-4 lead.


The RedWolves would rally in the ninth when Piper hit a sac fly that scored Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) to tie the game.


Connor Holden (Murry State) would pitch three shutout innings to finish regulation and start extras. He struck out six in the outing.


Robin Allen (Eckerd) took the loss going 1.1 innings allowing one unearned run on a wild pitch in the 13th to give Savannah the win. He struck out two on the night.


In total, Florence used five pitchers while Savannah used four.


Epps and Figueroa both led the RedWolves with two hits each while Piper led the team with two RBIs on the day.


The RedWolves left 18 men on base while Savannah left 15. The Bananas worked 11 walks in the game while Florence batters only worked five.


The RedWolves will hit the road on Wednesday to take on the Fayetteville SwampDogs.


The RedWolves will return to Florence on Thursday to take on the Lexington County Blowfish. It will be Thirsty Thursday with first pitch at 7 pm and gates opening at 6 pm.
