RedWolves outslug Salamanders

The Florence RedWolves defeated the Holly Springs Salamanders 10-5 on Sunday night at Ting Park. 


Holly Springs (11-14) struck first in the bottom of the second when a run scored on an error to take the 1-0 lead. 


Florence (11-16) responded in the top of the third when JT Weber (Southern Illinois) homered to tie the game at 1-1. 


The Salamanders would respond with a home run of their own to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third. 


The RedWolves would answer back with a two-run home run by Kenny Piper (Columbia College) to tie the game at 3-3. 


In the bottom of the fourth, Holly Springs would respond with a run on a sac fly to make it 4-3. 


Florence would answer in the sixth when Mitch Barrow (Indiana State) launched his fourth homer of the week. This one was a two-run shot that left Ting Park to make it 5-4 RedWolves. 


The Salamanders would respond with a home run of their own to tie the game at 5-5. 


In the eighth, the RedWolves would take control. Nathan Medrano (St. Edwards's) scored on a balk to break the tie before Piper launched his second two-run homer of the game to make it 8-5 RedWolves.  


Florence would tack on two insurance runs in the ninth when Weber scored on an error and Medrano scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-5. 


Jared Lembcke (North Greenville) would toss a scoreless ninth to pick up the save. 


Brett Manis (Ohio) picked up the win tossing 2 scoreless innings of relief striking out one. 


The RedWolves and Salamanders combined for six homers in the game. 


Piper, Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) and Weber all lead the RedWolves offense with two hits. Piper finished 2-for-4 with two, two-run homers and four RBIs, Weisenseel went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a sac bunt and Weber went 2-for-4 with a homer and RBI and two runs scored. 


The RedWolves will return home on Monday to take on the Savannah Bananas. Monday will be Game Show night with gates opening at 6 pm and first pitch at 7 pm.
