The Florence RedWolves defeated the Savannah Bananas 6-4 in game one before falling 8-2 in game two on Monday night at Sparrow Stadium.
The RedWolves (5-9) jumped out to an early lead in game one by striking for four runs in the first inning. JT Weber (Southern Illinois) singled home Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) to get the scoring started. Zach Durfee (Siena) then singled home Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) to make it 2-0. RBI singles by Mitch Barrow (Indiana State) and Austin Ulick (Southern Illinois) would score Weber and Durfee to cap the big inning for the RedWolves.
Florence would add on with two in the fourth when Weber singled home Figueroa and Ulick to make it 6-0.
Savannah (10-4) would answer back with two in the fifth and the seventh but that is all they would muster in the comeback attempt.
Culver Hughes (West Chester) got the stat and went 4.2 allowing just five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out two.
Duncan Callahan (North Greenville) picked up the win in relief of Hughes after tossing 1.1 scoreless and striking out one.
Nathan Bock (Southeast Missouri State) picked up the save.
Savannah would come out red hot in the second game pushing across five runs in the first and adding two more in the second inning.
Lex Tuten (North Greenville) would reach on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second that allowed Weber to score to make it 7-1 Bananas.
The RedWolves would get one closer when Michael Richardson (Ohio) singled home Figueroa in the fifth to make it 7-2.
But the Bananas would tack on one more in the sixth to make it 8-2.
Robin Allen (Eckerd) took the loss for the RedWolves going 2 innings allowing seven runs (five earned) while striking out two.
The RedWolves will hit the road on Tuesday to take on Fayetteville before returning home on Wednesday to play the Macon Bacon.
Wednesday will be kid's camp night as well as Homer's birthday.
Gates open at 6 pm with first pitch at 7 pm.
