RedWolves rally falls short against Blowfish

The Florence RedWolves scored four in the eighth inning to bring them within a run, but could not complete the comeback and fell 7-6 to the Lexington County Blowfish on Tuesday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

The RedWolves grabbed the early lead in the first inning when Joe Simone (Rider) scored when Ben Peden (The Citadel) reached on an error to make it 1-0.

But the Blowfish would quickly answer with four in the bottom half of the first, two runs in the second and one in the fifth to grow their lead to 7-1.

Florence would mount a comeback that started in the sixth when McLendon Sears (College of Charleston) tripled home Greg Vaughn (LIU-Brooklyn) to make it 7-2.

The rally continued in the eighth when the RedWolves scored four times on a Simone ground out, Peden single and a Vaughn two run double to make it 7-6 Lexington.

That is all the closer the RedWolves would get after going down in order in the ninth.

Colby Lee (Francis Marion) got the start and the loss tossing 4 innings allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four.

The RedWolves (17-18) will be off on Wednesday before hitting the road on Thursday to take on the Savannah Bananas.
